Conventions of Horror & Comedy

To start to prepare for the horror/comedy film, my group and I will have to figure out all of our needs for our genre choices... And to do that we must learn all of the conventions of each genre. First, we need to use high-key lighting to frighten the audience so the horror part of the film can play out, natural lighting as well so at night time it can set the mood. We also need to have a weapon (any weapon to match the storyline or killer). Dark colors, such as red and black... To show that the darkness and harm that is going to occur.

The setting of the horror/comedy film must be in the woods, a graveyard, or a dark isolated place so the audience will know as soon as they see the setting this movie may be a horror film. The custom of the killer may be a mask or a dark outfit with their revealing face. The setting for the comedy scenes will be in public local areas making the film not only frightening, but also funny so it entertains the audience more.

The camera shots for the comedy scenes will be naturalistic. The lighting will be bright or it will be natural lighting, because it forms a real life environment. Happy, goofy, and bright colors will be the characters costumes for the comedy scenes. Props to describe the character is very important, because the props show the character's attitude and the way they act before they even speak. The comedy characters will be dumbfounded or idiotic and not normal like to create entertainment... The characters acting dumb will make the comedy scenes more funny. And last but not least, is dark humor. It will line up with the horror parts of the film, but also the comedy parts of the film.
